National Geophysical Data Retrieval and Integration
Retrieve and Integrate Geophysical Data
Task Objectives
Over the past several years the USGS has archived and made available through websites
large quantities of geophysical data. Unfortunately, not all historical data has been made
digitally available, and thus the data set is incomplete. Also, because of the large quantity of
data, locating particular datasets can be difficult to do. The project is intended to address
both of these problems by finalizing the digitization of datasets, releasing of newly archived
digital data, and centralizing access to each through the Mineral Resources Program Spatial Data Website and other web-based
geospatial portals.
Archive Aeromagnetic Databases:
- Digitize and digitally recover all remaining datasets
- Update digitized magnetics website with new digitized datasets and create metadata for all the datasets
- As new data is acquired, the resolution of the state maps shall be improved and new derivative products created as needed
- Format all magnetic data so that:
- All continued to same elevation above ground
- All have appropriate regional field removed and integrated with an interpretive geomagnetic field model
- All in consistent digital format (grid, ascii, database)
- Obtain releases for Indian Land magnetic data and update the digital magnetics website to include any additions
- Generate polygon boundaries of archived data
- Continue to compile and archive newly acquired airborne magnetic datasets
- Develop centralized master database
Archive Gravimetric Databases:
- Continue to supply University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with newly acquired gravity data
- Generate state scale gravity datasets in both geotif and grid format
- Develop centralized master database
Archive Radiometric and Electromagnetic Databases:
- For the NURE magnetic and radiometric data, complete the editing of the data, establish the metadata, and release all to a web open-file report
- Generate polygon boundaries of archived data
- Continue to compile and archive all newly acquired radiometric and airborne electromagnetic datasets
- Develop centralized master database
Spatial Information Delivery:
Most of the currently available databases and resultant grids for magnetic, gravity, radiometrics, and electromagnetic surveys have been released to and displayed on the Geophysical Data Products website. This project will develop a web-based geospatial
portal to facilitate the distrubution of this data. Once the portal is established and serving data, functionality will be added by developing routines which can be run on data within the centralized database that produce derivative products able to be seen and downloaded from the web-portal.
Statement of Work
- Continue to finalize the archival of digital and digitized magnetic datasets and place them
in the appropriate existing open file reports.
- Produce final NURE datasets of magnetics and radiometrics with a 'comprehensive
model' provided by a university professor. Create metadata for all quads and
produce an open file report. The enormity of this task has not allowed us to complete it last year.
- Create index maps and specification tables for state magnetic and gravity websites.
- Continue to format data to be accessible through an ArcGIS Server web-based geospatial portal.
- Identify and remedy performance issues associated with ArcGIS Server.
- Look into ways to further facilitate access to data. Such options include, but are not
limited to, redesigning the CICT Geophysical Data Product's page and using Google Earth and Maps as a
means to distribute geophysical data.
